The "Taiwan-Ryukyu International Sailing Regatta" has entered its 25th year and made a powerful comeback in 2023 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. A record-breaking 45 teams participated, including sailyachts from Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the United States, the Dominican Republic, and more. With over 350 participants from 16 different nationalities, it stands as one of the largest heavyweight sailing events in Asia.
On June 11, the regatta kicked off with an island race around Keelung Island. The second race, an ocean crossing from Keelung to Miyako Island in Japan, took place on June 12. On June 15, the regatta continued with a venue buoy race at the port of Hirara on Miyako Island. Points were accumulated based on the results of these three races.
The Warhawk Team, consisting of seven coaches, sailed the newly launched "Warhawk Ark," an Elan Yachts classic cruising yacht, Impression 45.1. In the first race around Keelung Island, they secured the second position. The second race, a transoceanic race from Keelung's Bi Sha Port, covering 220 nautical miles, presented challenges such as stormy weather, scorching sun with no wind, and various sea conditions and vessel components. After enduring 44 hours of pure wind sailing, they successfully reached the port of Hirara on Miyako Island, claiming the first position in the group race. In the final race, held in the beautiful waters off Miyako Island, Warhawk Ark fiercely competed with the respected Japanese teams Jefun and Warhawk Ark, ultimately securing the second position in the venue race. With a cumulative score victory in Group C, they clinched the overall championship. The Warhawk Team's remarkable achievements were attributed to the hard work and dedication of all the coaches and team members, once again accomplishing the seemingly impossible task.
