Valeriy and his family, Ukrainian nationals, fled the war by sailing abroad. However, while en route to the Philippines, their boat experienced a major mechanical failure due to its age. With emergency assistance from the Immigration Office, they successfully obtained short-term visas and urgently docked at Wuci Fishing Port in Taichung on November 29, 2023. Subsequent inspections revealed cracks in the hull from prolonged sailing and damage to the automatic bilge pump, causing the bilge water to accumulate. Through various channels, the Taichung Wuci Fishing Port Coast Guard and Warhawk Sailing were contacted. Warhawk Sailing provided free lifting, accommodation, food, clothing, sailboat repair facilities, and maintenance tools for the Ukrainian family.
Due to the advanced age of the Ukrainian family's boat, the availability of spare parts was one of the crucial factors to consider for repairs. Repairing the boat within a short period posed a significant challenge for the maintenance team. Warhawk Sailing understood the importance of having the right tools for the job. Upon discovering the serious issues facing the boat, the Warhawk Sailing team worked tirelessly, actively communicating and coordinating with repair personnel, who worked overnight to complete the repairs. The boat has now been repaired for major leaks, while repairs to the propeller shaft are ongoing. The family plans to cross the Pacific Ocean to Canada and urgently needs a seawater desalination device, which they are currently seeking assistance from manufacturers.
